Woman walks out of thrift store with two children on New Year's Eve
A 23-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly kidnapping two children from a Dallas thrift store last night. Brianah Blount reportedly told officers that she found the children unattended at the White Rock thrift store while their father was trying on clothes. An employee at the store noticed the children, who are black, leaving the store with Blount, who is white.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Officers responded to the call just before 6 p.m. After speaking with the child’s father and the employee police determined that a woman had walked out of the store with the 7-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl.
About an hour later a man called police after seeing Blount and the two children at an apartment complex about four miles away from the thrift store. When he asked Blount whose children they were she said that she had found them. The police found both children safe and returned them to their father.
Blount is currently in the Lew Sterrett jail on two charges of kidnapping, assaulting a police officer and active warrants for driving without insurance and no valid drivers’ license. Police have said she is not related to the children. According to Blount’s Facebook page she may have a child of her own. Beyond the outstanding warrants she apparently has no criminal history. Bail is set at $30,784.
