Body discovered believed to be that of missing 6-year-old Washington State girl

The girl's father, James Wright, was accused of molesting two family members in 2000.

A body believed to be that of a missing 6-year-old Washington State girl was found Thursday, The Associated Press reports.

Jenise Wright disappeared from her home over the weekend and was located, after four days of searching, in a wooded area near the mobile home park where she lived.

Although an autopsy will be conducted on Friday to determine how Wright died, Scott Wilson, a spokesman for the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, told the media that “we suspect that she just did not go off by herself and fall into some bushes and die.”

Reuters reports that Wright went seen going to bed on Saturday night, but was not spotted the next morning. Her family waited until Sunday night to report her missing because she would frequently walk around the neighborhood during the day without supervision.

Citing court records in the Evergreen State, Reuters adds that the girl’s father, James Wright, was accused of molesting two family members in 2000. Those charges were dropped to assault.

“This is going to be a criminal investigation, there’s no doubt about that,” Wilson said, according to The AP.
