Savannah Guthrie gets engaged

Guthrie is engaged.

When it rains, it pours. It’s a saying Al Roker would certainly appreciate, and one that rings particularly true this week for his colleague, Today Show host Savannah Guthrie.

Just months after grabbing the reins from Ann Curry and stepping in as Matt Lauer’s co-anchor, the 41-year-old journalist and attorney announced Monday on the show that she is engaged to Michael Feldman, 44, her boyfriend of four years. An aide to former Vice President Al Gore, Feldman is well known inside the Beltway. The politico proposed to the former White House Correspondent on a romantic jaunt to the Turks and Caicos this past weekend, according to Pop Blend. Despite her best efforts to drop hints and flash her impressive ring on Monday’s show, her normally astute coworkers, including eagle-eyed Lauer, failed to pick up on her signals, Guthrie said.

“We’ve been together four years, so, as he said, no one will accuse us of rushing into anything,” Guthrie said on air. “We adore each other. Our families have been in-laws for years … they were just waiting for us to catch up!”

Though she’s only been at Today for ten months, it’s obvious Guthrie has won over the NBC crew. Her big news inspired Roker to give her a shout-out on Instagram and to joke that he wanted to throw the couple a Today Show wedding—something Guthrie said she would not be doing any time soon. Lauer, meanwhile, took to Twitter later that day to tweet a photo of the lovely brunette and her massive diamond engagement ring.

Even heartthrob Bradley Cooper showed his appreciation for Guthrie, stopping by and presenting her with a congratulatory bouquet of red roses. When he jokingly asked her for her digits, it was apparent the host was flattered, but happily taken.

Guthrie’s marriage to Feldman will be her second. In 2004 she wed BBC News presenter Mark Orchard, whom she met while covering the trial of Michael Jackson. The couple divorced in 2009 and, soon after, the reporter began dating Feldman, who is a founding partner and managing director of the Glover Park Group. In an interview last year with Vogue magazine, Guthrie revealed she is interested in having children and that she would never put her job before her family.

With a series of impressive career moves and successes and her dream partner by her side, the odds are in Guthrie’s favor that she will not have to compromise on anything.
