One dead, four injured in drive-by shooting near a Tenn. University, police say

Five people were shot in a drive-by shooting near a college campus in northern Tennessee on Monday night, according to police. One man died and four others were injured.

Natalie Hall, a spokeswoman for the Clarksville Police, said that officers were on the scene around 9 p.m. after receiving word that shots had been fired. The shooting occurred outside of a home two blocks east of Austin Peay State University. Although the shooting occurred close to the campus, Hall said that the police have no reason to believe the shooting was connected to the university.

The victims have been identified as 27-year-old Quinton Fentress, 28-year-old Tony Greene, 31-year-old Timothy Russell, 23-year-old Dajuan Dowlen and 27-year-old Vincent Pardue, as reported by USA Today. Hall stated that Pardue was the man that died of his injuries. The others had “serious injuries.”

Fentress and Greene were airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville by LifeFlight to be treated for injuries. The Leaf-Chronicle reported that university sports fields were used as landing grounds for the helicopters.

And Dowlen and Russell were transported by ambulance to local hospital Gateway Regional Medical Center to be treated. No further information has been released on the conditions of the four injured men.

Police said that the five men were cooking outside of a home when they went under gunfire. Police are still searching for a white Kia Soul that was seen fleeing the scene. Three males were said to be inside the car.

No further information was released, and as of Monday night, no suspects had been found. Detectives were on the scene investigating the shootings, according to Associated Press.

The Leaf-Chronicle reported that the university issued an alert around 10 p.m. It urged the university community to “take precautions” to ensure their safety though there did not appear to be any danger.
