Microsoft and Samsung expand partnership to excel productivity

Microsoft Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. have extended their alliance to provide Microsoft mobile productivity services to more consumers.

The demand from consumers to be able to work more effectively from anywhere has been met by this expanding partnership of Microsoft and Samsung. To be completely unattached to a desk, productivity programs like Word and Excel are a necessity on tablets and smartphones, according to Nasdaq.

The growing relationship will make it easier for consumers to take work with them everywhere they go.

The plan is for Samsung to pre-install Microsoft services and apps on its collection of Android devices. They will be producing mobile productivity for businesses as well through a new Microsoft Office 365 and Samsung KNOX Business Pack. And Samsung will pre-install OneNote, OneDrive and Skype on the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

Dedicated to redesigning productivity in a mobile-first, cloud-first world, Microsoft is expanding its cloud-based services to customers in new ways across platforms and devices.

By late summer, Samsung is planning to pre-install Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype on select Samsung Android tablets as well.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will also come with 100 GB of additional free cloud storage for two years through the Microsoft OneDrive.

The changes will make it easy to seamlessly continue working despite switching devices. With each different device now, there are separate productivity challenges. Some devices are portable but lose battery power fast, while others have varying levels of storage and functionality.

Microsoft and Samsung aim to break down the barriers to productivity.
