Florida teen arrested after murder-for-hire contract to kill parents found in bedroom

A 14-year-old Florida boy has been arrested on charges of soliciting murder after his father found a murder-for-hire contract in his bedroom. The teen had “hired” a classmate to kill his parents. According to police, the plan was to stage the murder as a burglary gone wrong.

The teen wrote up the “contract” for murder and attempted to hire a friend for $1,200 to kill his stepmother, stepbrother and father. The friend signed the contract thinking that it was not legitimate, and then forgot about it. The boy’s father found the note along with a folding knife in the teen’s backpack over the weekend.

The “contract” note (with names redacted) read: I [XXX] will be hitman for hire for [XXX] to murder [XXX]. I am aware that if I do not go through with it I will no get paid. Money question we agreed upon was 1200 dollars. I will leave in an hour or two within the murder.”

The plan was that the friend would come over and shoot the three family members while the 14-year-old boy was in his bedroom. The boy would “escape” and go to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

The arrest document reveals that the boy had been depressed and wanted to hurt himself, although he had no specific plans for carrying this out. His father told police that in April 2014 the teen had taken a knife to school and threatened to kill classmates. He was suspended.

The boy told Port St. Lucie police that he was angry about getting grounded for bad grades, and wanted his family members killed because he had “built up anger” toward them. He said that he had previously thought about killing his family but did not know how to go about doing it. His father told police that he had put locks on the family’s bedroom doors after becoming concerned that his son would harm them.

The teen is being held on charges of solicitation to commit first degree murder. He could face up to three charges for each family member he wanted killed. It has not yet been decided if the boy will be tried as an adult. The other teen will not face charges. No money was exchanged, and no gun had been obtained.
