Her fans are hoping it isn’t too complicated. Canadian singer Avril Lavigne has alarmed her followers by admitting on Twitter that she was having “health issues.”

On Tuesday December 9, fan account @AvrilMusicChart posted a picture of a conversation with Lavigne’s account that occurred on December 7. The fan account asked the singer if she was in the studio working on a new album. Lavigne, 30, wrote back, “I feel bad because I haven’t been able to say anything to the fans to let them (know) why I’ve been absent. I’m torn as I’m quite private. I’m not feeling well. I’m having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers.”

Her fans began tweeting with the hashtags #GetWellSoonAvril and #PrayforAvril. On Sunday, Lavigne responded to @AvrilMusicChart’s tweet of the hashtags with a simple “Thank you.” She has not released any further statement as to the nature or severity of her illness.

Lavigne is perhaps best known for her singles off her debut album, including “Sk8ter Boi.” She released her last album in November of 2013, a few months after marrying Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. Her last live shows occurred in August in Japan.

Billboard associate editor Jason Lipshutz reported late on Tuesday that he had reached out to Lavigne’s representative. The rep confirmed that the tweet exchanges were authentic, i.e. from Lavigne herself. The rep did not specify what illness Lavigne is battling but did confirm that the issue was not pregnancy, as many fans may have speculated.
