Microsoft launching tools to create a cross-platform system

Soon you will be able to play game titles across Windows 10 PC, Xbox consoles and Microsoft mobile devices. Head of games for Microsoft, Phil Spencer, said that the company is investing in a cross-platform system.

Microsoft plans to launch new tools for each of its major programs so that developers can create games that will run across its family of devices, according to Venture Beat.

The new Microsoft Xbox Live software development kit for Windows 10 is already available to developers. This new development means that player recommendations, history and achievements will follow people across all the platforms.

Microsoft is planning to enable one identity, one universal app, one store, and one game that runs across all the devices. The Windows Store reaches 240 countries, so they are anticipating that the application will evolve faster than Windows itself does.

The company is offering training sessions at GDC to train developers on how to make games for Windows 10. Spencer said that although Microsoft is enabling cross-platform play on Windows PC, Microsoft consoles and mobile devices, it does not mean you can play cross-platform on Sony or Nintendo devices.

Spencer also noted that Minecraft, which Microsoft bought with its $2.5 billion purchase of Mojang last year, enables players to create their own games with the larger one. He said this is exactly what Microsoft is continuing to work on with tools that can make this easier.

Epic Games is also creating a version of their Unreal Tournament that will run across Windows 10’s ecosystem. Microsoft also said that its upcoming Fable Legends will run on Windows 10 and Xbox One.

They are also releasing a wireless adapter for Windows that allows you to use Xbox One controllers and other peripheral devices that work with Windows 10 devices too.
