First look at Joseph Gordon Levitt as Edward Snowden

Joseph Gordan-Levitt is set to play the infamous Edward Snowden in Oliver Stone’s upcoming thriller Snowden. Today Open Road, who is producing the film, released the first set photo.

This first look shows us the Snowden before he became the whistle-blower who unquestionably served his country. The film is currently shooting in Munich as one of the many locations they will be stopping in around the world to complete the film.

Joseph Gordan=Levitt may be the star of the film, but the rest of the cast is full of all stars. They include Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Olyphant, Rhys Ifans and Joely Richardson.

The U.S. distribution rights belong to Open Road. Pathé Films has the rights to distribution in France and Beneluz as they helped develop the project with Stone’s producing partner Moritz Borman. The rest of the territories around the world will be handled by Wild Bunch.

Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, and Philip Schulz-Deyle are producing the film. Stone directs a script that he co-wrote with Kieran Fitzgerald, based on Luke Harding’s The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man and Anatoly Kucherena’s Time of the Octopus. Anatoly Kucherena is Snowden’s Russian lawyer.

Snowden is still a hot topic these days. Just last month, the Snowden documentary Citizen Four won the Oscar for Best Documentary at the Academy Awards. The film was directed by Laura Poitras

Snowden is set to be released in December of 2015.
