Maggie Smith to leave ‘Downton Abbey’ after Season 6

Downton Abbey had it’s Season 5 finale last night in U.S. on PBS. They might be filming the 6th season in Britain right now, but this might me the last time Maggie Smith will be on their set.

The Oscar winner plays the sharp tongued character of Violet on Downton Abbey and everybody is wondering how long her character will last.

Smith told U.K.’s Sunday Times, “I certainly can’t keep going. To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now. We’re into the late 1920s” in the storyline. Smith may have spilled the beans about her character’s demise this season.

Regarding Smith’s comments, executive producer Gareth Neame, said that Maggie had only been with the show on a year to year basis. That what she said is “nothing we haven’t heard before from Maggie”.

Smith is currently starring in The Second Bed Exotic Marigold Hotel which is the UK’s No. 1 film. It grossed over $5.85M this weekend.
