Housekeeper beaten and attacked with blowtorch by New York couple who accused her of stealing

The New York Police Department have arrestedĀ a New York couple who allegedly attacked their housekeeper with a blowtorch and beat her for several hours, claiming she had stolen from them. Daisy Machuea, 54, was treated at a local hospital for burns to her legs and face, and bruising to her body. The incident reportedly happened on Feb. 13.

Machuea said she arrived for work at the home in Queens and immediately had a large knife put to her neck. According to police, the homeowners, Ambar Lachman, 31, and husband Devanand Lachman, 32, accused her of stealing $8,000 in jewelry and cash. Machuea said there was another man present as well.

The housekeeper said she was questioned by the Lachmans while the third person burned her on the legs, face and hair with the torch. Devanand and the third person allegedly beat her, and threatened her with a gun and a knife. Finally, after eight hours of torture, Machuea told the three that she had the missing items at her home and would give it to them. They drove her home, where her housemate, Oscar Ramirez, met them at the door to find the three suspects holding a knife to Machuea’s throat and demanding their valuables. They ransacked the home, then eventually left, telling Machuea that if she did not return the money by the next day she would be killed. Machuea and RamirezĀ called the police.

The Lachmans were arrested the next day and charged with assault and kidnapping. Devanand is being held without bail. Ambar was released on $50,000 bail. They are reportedly not cooperating with authorities, and have not said who the third suspect is.

Machuea said she just wanted to stop the beating, and had not taken anything. Police are searching for the third assailant, described as 30 to 35 years old, medium build and about six feet tall.
