Frantic rescue for man buried in snow for 3 1/2 hours in New Hampshire

The man had been working on his roof when a mini-avalanche started, dragging him into the snow and trapping him.

A New Hampshire man spent hours buried in the snow after an accident on the roof of his home.

Firefighters responded to his address on Old Street at about 5:30 p.m. after the man’s wife called them, saying she had tried to rescue her husband after hearing his muffled voice beneath the snow, but was unable to reach him, according to a myFOXBoston.com report.

It took nine firefighters to dig out Drew Mullins, who had two feet of snow from the surface and had spent three and a half hours there.

Mullins said he worried he was going to die, but he became angry at the thought of dying that way and decided he wasn’t going to.

He said he had been clearing his roof when he noticed a sort of mini-avalanche form, causing snow to rush off the roof. The snow buried him and no one was home at the time. He found himself unable to move.

Mullins said he couldn’t bear the thought of leaving his wife and daughters alone after dying this way, and his panicked breathing created a hole large enough to at least breathe. His wife and daughters arrived shortly after and discovered him in the snow, but they found they couldn’t reach him or pull him to safety.

At that point, his wife realized she wouldn’t be able to do it on her own and called the authorities for help, and first responders were finally able to reach Mullins, who said he was “glad that I’m here.”
