‘America’s Next Top Model’ contestant killed in triple homicide

A contestant in last year’s America’s Next Top Model TV show has been killed in a triple homicide in Charlotte, North Carolina. The body of Mirjana Puhar, 19, was found with two others on Tuesday evening. A 19-year-old man, Emmanuel Jesus Rangel, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the killings. He is charged with three counts of first-degree murder. He is also being charged in connection with a murder at a motel that happened on Sunday.

The bodies of Puhar, her 23-year-old boyfriend, Jonathan Alvarado, and Alvarado’s roommate, 21-year-old Jusmar Gonzaga-Garcia, were found at Alvarado’s home. Police have not revealed how the three were killed.

Police were called to the house after reports of gunshots were received. Although a friend reportedly discovered Puhar and Alvarado’s body, the third victim was not found until police arrived.

According to CNN, Puhar was a Serbian refugee who came to the U.S.with her family when she was 5 years old, and began modeling at 12. She finished in eighth place in the contest, eliminated in episode 10 of the series that began last August.

According to police, it appears the incident was drug-related. It also appears that the suspect and the victims knew one another.

The America’s Next Top Model series was created by Tyra Banks, who also hosts the show and is herself a former top-earning fashion model. She and co-producer Ken Mok said in a statement that Puhar was a “vivacious and promising young woman,” and that their prayers go out to her loved ones.

Rangel is in the custody of the Mecklenburg County sheriff’s office.
