Wintry mix slams New Jersey; more snowfall projected for Northeast U.S. today: reports

The snowstorm comes as much of New England is still digging out of a blizzard that dropped up to three feet of snow just days ago.

A wintry mix could slam New Jersey with sleet and freezing rain — as well as a little snow — and could create some hazardous driving conditions statewide.

Winter storm warnings have been placed in effect in the northern counties of the state with the possibility of from 2 to 10 inches of snow and ice from a storm that is headed for hte area, according to an Associated Press report.

Although there isn’t much snow expected in central and south New Jersey, winter weather advisories were also issued there because of dangerous roadways from ice, particularly on the side roads.

The wintry mix began hitting the area Sunday evening and is expected to continue into this afternoon, which could create some ugly commute conditions. Authorities are urging drivers to be extra cautious.

The storm comes just days after a major snowstorm slammed the New England region. Although it ended up being a bust in the New York City area, it dropped up to three feet of snow in areas of New England, and the region is still digging out from the blizzard.

Dubbed Winter Storm Linus, it is expected to drop heavy snow on much of the Northeast once again today, causing a rough start to the week for millions. It will also drop freezing rain on the New York City area and southern New England, according to Weather.com.

Snow was reported in Central Park in Manhattan Sunday evening, but that changed to freezing rain by the morning.
