Katy Perry promises sharks, lions and other special guests for Super Bowl halftime show

Perry claims her performances will cause "jaws to drop" and "faces to melt."

Katy Perry has been selected as the halftime performer for this year’s Super Bowl, and while she admits that she isn’t the most knowledgeable when it comes to football, she’s confident that she can put on a show viewers will enjoy. At a press conference on Thursday, the “Firework” singer revealed that her halftime show will feature a number of special guests and “sharks” and “lions” will somehow be included.

When reporters asked Perry for her thoughts on popular football topics like DeflateGate, she admitted that she knows very little about the sport. She’ll only be watching and cheering for the Seahawks because her text buddy Russell Wilson is on the team.

“I don’t think I’m so much of an expert on the game of football, but I can assure everyone in here, nothing in my performance will be deflated,” she joked, before proving that she’s privy to some of the football jokes circulating the media by adding, “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.

Perry confirmed rumors that Lenny Kravitz will be joining her during the show, and revealed that a surprise female guest will also make an appearance to add “appropriate sexiness.”

“I’m very excited about this guest,” said Perry. “It will be a real female-fun night. Jaws will drop, faces will melt.”

The 30-year-old popstar also promised that her “colorful” halftime show, which she’s been designing for months, will somehow involve both “sharks” and “lions.”

“It’s a larger than life show. I’ve collaborated on everything,” she said. “There is not a diamond on a shoe that has not gone past my eyes. I’m so prepared for this show that I even had time for Netflix the other night.”

Hamish Hamilton, the television director for this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, stated that Perry’s entire performance will be nothing like Super Bowl viewers have seen before and will give fans a chance to see a different side of Perry and her music.

“The music track is completely different, the staging elements are different,” says Hamilton. “This is a brand-new show, brand-new soundtrack and a brand-new collaboration.”
