Infant girl found dead near Los Angeles, father charged with murder

Few details were available on exactly how the child died, with even those who knew about the death refusing to discuss what happened.

A 3-week-old girl from Newhall in northwest Los Angeles is dead, and police are charging her father with murder.

Authorities say the parents walked into a police station in Santa Clarita on Friday night and reported their daughter missing, prompting police to conduct a search. They found the child early Saturday morning in the cab of a truck that was parked in a nearby lot, according to a CBS report.

The child’s father, 30-year-old Matthew Warner, had led police to the location, and he was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

The mother of the child was at work on Friday night when something happened at their apartment. Exactly what, however, was not disclosed: although there were some individuals who knew about the situation, they remained tight-lipped about exactly what happened.

The mother was held for questioning overnight and into the day on Saturday. She was described as “distraught.” It was the parents’ only child.

No cause of death has been determined yet, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarita Valley Station.
