NASA assembly takes 100 millionth picture of the sun

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory released its 100 millionth image of the sun. The milestone was accomplished using a device called the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly, which used four telescopes to capture eight images, which were then processed into one photo.

The image was taken on Jan. 19 according to NASA. Since 2010, the Assembly has been snapping photos in an effort to help scientists understand solar phenomena.

Questions such as the causes of solar flares and the reason for the sun’s constantly moving magnetic fields continue to intrigue NASA scientists. The Assembly is helping to advance the quest for answers one snapshot at a time
