Terrifying Texas hospital standoff ends peacefully

Texas official say a standoff at a Texas hospital has ended peacefully.

According to state officials, the father of a patient at the southeast Texas hospital became distraught over his son’s condition, which eventually escalated into a four-hour standoff with state police. The incident, which drew in nearly twenty officers, reportedly ended peacefully on Saturday.

The man, who appeared to be armed, did not fire the weapon and surrendered shortly before 11 p.m. According to Texas authorities, no was injured after the man let a four-hour standoff with state police. The man was holed up at the Tomball Regional Medical Center, about 30 miles northwest Houston, Texas.

The man surrender without incident, after more than a dozen SWAT officers reported to the hospital. Police say the man became distraught after his son’s condition deteriorated and doctors struggled to stabilize him. No further details of the incident were disclose.

Areas adjacent to the hospital were evacuated as police searched the hospital for the man, and attempted to determine whether he was armed.

“The focus was to make sure everyone on that floor was safe and moved out of potential harm’s way and we take the subject into custody,” said Harris County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Ambriz, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The man, whose identity was not disclosed, surrendered after police were able to negotiate and calm him down. Speaking late Saturday, the sheriff’s office said the incident with not considered a hostage situation, despite earlier reports. According to the sheriff’s office, more than a dozen officers were involved.
