Florida woman arrested for slapping her grandmother over Facebook dispute

A 27-year-old woman was arrested after slapping a 72-year-old woman multiple times for refusing to accept her friend request on Facebook.

Rachel Anne Hayes, resident of Clearwater, FL, was arrested early Thursday morning after assaulting her grandmother during an argument about Facebook, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Hayes has been charged with aggravated battery on an elderly person.

Hayes allegedly arrived at her grandmother’s private residence on Wednesday in inquire about a denied friend request. When her grandmother admitted she had denied the request due to an inappropriate screen name, Hayes grew upset. Her grandmother informed her that if she would just change the undisclosed name, the request would be accepted. Hayes refused and left the house.

A short time later, Hayes returned and the argument continued at the threshold of the front door. Deputies reported that Hayes slapped her grandmother several times before she managed to close the door and call the police. However, before the deputies responded, Hayes left the scene. She was later arrested for the aggravated battery, a felony.

Hayes has been arrested three times previously in Pinellas County, reported New York Daily News, . The first was for driving under the influence, the second for violating probation, and the third for disorderly conduct.

It was stated in an arrest affidavit that Hayes was under the influence of alcohol at the time. She was taken to Pinellas County jail, where she was released after posting bail.
