Netflix: New movie and television shows streaming in Dec. 2014

A new crop of Netflix movies and television series arrives in December.

With another new month comes a new crop of great Netflix movies and television series’ ready to stream for fan’s viewing pleasure. This month brings several entertainment options sure to entertain on those rainy days. Whether tastes include raunchy comedies, nail biting dramas or the new season of a favorite television show, there is certainly something for everyone.

Available at the beginning of the month, check out Crossroads. Released in 2002, the movie stars female starlets Britney Spears, Anson Mount and Zoe Saldana, playing friends who take an adventurous road trip in an effort to truly find themselves. The classic drama, Almost Famous, will also be released on this date. Famous follows Stillwater, a rock band consisting of actors Patrick Fugit, Jason Lee and Jimmy Fallon, who go on tour while being reported on by a young journalist.

On Dec. 11, check out the Martin Scorsese classic, The Wolf of Wall Street, which stars an engaging Leonardo DiCaprio as a wealthy stockbroker on the wrong side of the law. Wall Street also stars Jonah Hill, Rob Reiner and Matthew McConaughey in the film which was nominated for many awards, including Best Picture Oscar. Also on this day, enjoy the M. Night Shyamalan mystery, The Village, a twisty tale about a small town and the creepy woods that surround it. The Village was released in 2004 and features the acting talents of Bryce Dallas Howard, Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, and William Hurt while featuring a twist ending that will leave watchers breathless.

Fans of series television will also get their fill of entertainment with a slew of new Netflix series options. Throughout the month, look for season one of the English mystery series Broadchurch, a murder mystery set in a small town. This year, a remake of Broadchurch, called Gracepoint, debuted in America on FOX as a ten-part mini series. Both Broadchurch and Gracepoint star actor David Tennant. Also, be sure to check out the first season of The Sundance Channel’s The Honourable Woman, which follows a woman caught in an international struggle after inheriting her father’s arms business. This series is a political thriller and features an A-list cast including Maggie Gyllenhaal, Philip Arditti, Lubna Azabal, Andrew Buchan and Eve Best. The series has been applauded by critics for its brilliant story and acting.

Also available in December, the James Franco-starring film  Good People, the fantasy film Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, the film version of Bewitched, the horror film Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and the 2013 drama  Labor Day among others. Additional television releases include season three of American Horror Story, season one of Marco Polo, season one of All Hail King Julien and the first season of Turbo Fast, among others.

For those still trying to catch up, November brought subscribers the premier of films such as comedies, Addams Family Values and Airplane! as well as big screen dramas, BraveheartBram Stoker’s Dracula and The Core. Television shows released last month included season three of Bomb Girls, season four of Nikita and season three of Lilyhammer.
