High school teacher suspended over offensive tweet on Ferguson shooting: ‘Kill yourselves’

The teacher was suspended on Monday.

A high school teacher at Duncanville High School in the Dallas area has been suspended over a racially-charged tweet on the Ferguson shooting, The Dallas Morning News reports.

“Who the [expletive] made you dumb duck [expletive] crackers think I give a squat [expletive] about your opinions about my opinions RE: Ferguson? Kill yourselves,” English teacher Vinita Hegwood tweeted Friday.

Hegwood was suspended without pay Monday and, according to the newspaper, is likely to be fired over her tweet.

“I can’t say it emphatically enough. The nature of the comments are reprehensible,” Lari Barager, a spokeswoman for the Duncanville Independent School District, told reporters Monday, according to The Christian Science Monitor. “Those comments having been made in such a public way left the district no other option.”
