Obama forced to switch planes after mechanical problem grounds Air Force One

When you're the president of the United States, a backup Air Force One is never too far behind.

President Barack Obama couldn’t get off the ground Sunday. Literally.

According to a Reuters report, the president was forced to switch to a new plane after a mechanical problem with a flap grounded Air Force One.

Fortunately, when you’re the president of the United States, a backup Air Force One is never too far behind.

“While in Philadelphia, we have transferred to a backup airplane due to a minor mechanical problem with one of the aircraft’s flaps,” White House spokesman Eric Schultz said, according to Reuters. “This switch to a backup C-32 will not affect our schedule.”

Although the backup C-32 that flew the president from Philadelphia back to Washington isn’t normally named Air Force One, procedure dictates that any plane the president flies on becomes Air Force One just like any helicopter the president flies on becomes Marine One.

The Associated Press reports that the president had traveled to Connecticut and Pennsylvania to campaign for Democrats.
