The next version of Google’s Android mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, will reportedly be released on November 3.

The launch date for the software was revealed in a note that Google sent to developers, telling them that the software development kit for Android 5.0 was available. Google tells developers that they should develop apps using the Android Lollipop platform and begin publishing apps to be used on the latest version of Android. Google concludes the note by saying that Android Lollipop will be launched on November 3.

The date for the launch doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, especially considering the fact that Google said that the new Nexus 6 phablet and the Nexus 9 tablet will be available in early November. Both of these new devices will showcase the new software.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is set to include a number of great new features, including new security features such as default data encryption. It also includes a radically different design, which Google is calling “Material Design.” This design will feature more animations and movements. Other versions of Android, such as Android Auto for in-car systems, Android TV for living room entertainment systems, and Android Wear for wearable devices, will be based on the new version of Android.

Unfortunately now all devices will get the newest update and even for many of those that will a specific release date is unknown. Google’s previous Nexus devices, from the Nexus 4 and later, will get the update “in the coming weeks,” and HTC’s One M8 and One M7 will get the update “within 90 days of its release.” Motorola has said that its Moto X, Moto G and Moto E will get the update within the next few months.
