Two Seattle men who broke into a suburban Seattle home and attacked an 18-year-old victim with knives have been sentenced to more than 25 years each.

The victim, who was a stranger to his attackers, suffered deep cuts to his leg, shoulder and head and underwent surgery at Harborview Medical Center, the court documents said.

Superior Court Judge Jean Rietschel called the crime “absolutely horrifying.”

Twenty two old Vincent Sisounong and 20-year-old Blessing Gainey earlier pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and first-degree burglary. Both charges carried weapons enhancements, and prosecutors had recommended the men each serve just over 25 years in prison.

Police say Sisounong wanted the victim to “fight for his life” and enjoyed harming him, while Gainey “fed off” the other man’s energy, according to charging papers.

Prosecutors say the two were motivated by “pleasure and greed” when they attacked the teen who was staying at his family’s Kirkland home on Oct. 12, 2013. He was dragged from bed and attacked with knives in the basement early on Oct. 12, 2013.

A prosecutor told the judge the victim would have died had he not escaped and sought help from a neighbor.

Rawat said the sentencing was “definitely a big step in moving forward.”

Gainey was identified from fingerprints found in the victim’s bedroom and was arrested at a library in Burien on Oct. 24.

He identified Sisounong, who was arrested Oct. 25 at Green River Community College, the charges say. Knives and clothing stained with blood were later found in Sisounong’s apartment, according to the charges.
