Chelsea posted to her Twitter, “Marc and I are full of love, awe and gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our daughter, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky.”

Bill Clinton decided not to attend an event promoting Colorado democratic candidates Sen. Mark Udall and Gov. John Hickenlooper so he could see his new grandchild, according to The Associated Press. Clinton has been traveling the country to aid Democratic candidates.

Chelsea Clinton, 34, spent her teenage years as the first daughter, attended Stanford and graduate programs at Oxford and Columbia University, and then worked on Wall Street. She is now an active leader of the Clinton Foundation, also known as the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.

Chelsea married Marc Mezvinsky in July 2010 and they live in Manhattan.

Chelsea said to Rachel Ray in 2013, “My husband has 10 brothers and sisters, so we have 18, almost 19, nieces and nephews, so there’s not pressure from that side of the family…. But from my parents, there is completely unapologetic pressure in private and in public.”

The Clinton family has been enthusiastic about the baby. The family announced the pregnancy at an April Clinton Foundation event, and since then there has been active discussion of the baby.

Bill Clinton recently asked George W. Bush for advice on being a grandfather. Bush told him, “Be prepared to fall completely in love again. You’re not going to believe it. You’re just not going to believe the joy and the fun.”

Hillary Clinton said in a CNN interview, “Most of us, when we have our children, we’re still younger, we’re still striving, we’re still preoccupied with what’s going to happen in our lives, and I think a lot of people look back and say, ‘I did the best I could,’ but…. being a grandparent, you just have that freedom, at least that’s what I’m told, and I’m anxious to find out.”

According to Politico, Hillary Clinton has said she wants to put experiencing grandmotherhood ahead of her presidential plans.
