Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga sing together on ‘Cheek To Cheek’

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga sing together for their new song "I can'y give you anything" and have been performing duets on a number of other songs.

Although it may seem counterintuitive to believe Tony Bennet and Lady Gaga are compatible, the pair have been working together on several songs creating duets for their new album, Cheek to Cheek. When most people heard the news that the legendary singer and the new age pop star were working together they imagined a sort of orange juice and toothpaste sound.

“I think it’s probably what a lot of people are thinking when they hear Tony Bennet wants to do a jazz album with Lady Gaga, ” Gaga told NPR. “They say, ‘Huh? What are you talking about?'”

Surprisingly enough, this will not be the first time the pair have worked together. The artists have collaborated on “The Lady Is A Tramp” for his album Duets II. In fact, Bennett told NPR that Lady Gaga is up to the challenge of a full album of standards.

“She’s actually a very authentic jazz singer,” he said in an interview. “She’ll turn a phrase, she’ll make it different, because of the moment that she’s singing. And so, what happens is it keeps the songs alive; the interpretations become very intimate and everlasting.”

Gaga, who like Bennett was born in NYC, also told NPR that she’s been singing and performing jazz since she was a kid,.

“He’s brought out a subtlety in me that I’ve missed for a while, because my life is very noisy,” Gaga said. “It’s a lot harder to sing with auto-tune, in a way, you know? It’s a lot harder to sing with rigid electronic music and lots of spectacle. It can be very difficult, because it’s not always extremely natural.”
