A found bracelet served as a message for one woman who lost her brother on 9/11 nearly 13 years ago.
A bracelet honoring the memory of a lost firefighter during the 9/11 terrorist attacks was found by a woman that herself lost a relative in that same tragedy. That woman was able to help out the family that lost their loved one, all while remembering the loved one that she lost on the same day nearly 13 years ago.
According to CNN, while walking along the shores of Robert Moses State Park in New York nearly two weeks ago, Marlene Quinn found a metal bracelet that had the name of a firefighter inscribed on it, along with “9/11/01.” The name of the firefighter was Michael J. Otten, who died on September 11th, 2001. Quinn lost a brother by the name of Michael O’Neill on that same fateful day13 years ago from this coming Thursday.
Feeling that this was a sign directly from her brother, Marlene mailed the bracelet to the family of Michael Otten, who lived just a block away from where Marlene and her brother Michael grew up. As it turned out, nearly a decade ago, Otten’s son Jonathan lost the bracelet while at the beach, unbeknownst to his mother Marion. Jonathan now keeps the bracelet on his dresser. Jonathan, along with his brother Christopher, are both looking to follow in their father’s footsteps, as they are both in the process of becoming New York City firefighters.
Thursday will mark the 13th anniversary of 9/11. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost, including the lives of more than 300 New York City firefighters. While the pain of the event is still deeply engrained in the heart’s of millions of Americans, Thursday will be a day used for remembrance, and honoring those that were killed, and those that gave their lives trying to save others.
