BET’s Karreuche Tran apologizes for comments about Blue Ivy’s hair

The network producer made fun of the little girl's curls.

The backlash against Chris Brown’s on-again, off-again girlfriend has resulted in a public apology.

Karreuche Tran was a guest host on BET’s 106th and Park where she participated in a segment naming the top six things going through Blue Ivy’s head during the MTV Video Music Awards. One of the jokes involved Tran making fun of the little girl’s curls.

“I really did wake up like this because my parents didn’t comb my hair. Sorry, Blue! I love you!,” said Tran during the segment.

The legion of Beyonce’s fans, referring to themselves collectively as “The BeyHive”, took to social media to take Tran to task for her insensitive comments about the pop singer’s daughter. Tran responded via Twitter, trying to defend herself from the outraged public.

“Now y’all know I LOVE me some Beyoncé and Blue Ivy! I didn’t write this script y’all lol,” wrote Tran. “I am definitely team #BeyHive.”

But that wasn’t enough. Now a day later, Tran has offered a full public apology for her comments, which she still claims were part of a script she was given to read.

“I am a huge Beyoncé fan and I love Blue Ivy. I apologize for the comment and wish I had a chance to review the revised script so that I could have avoided participating in that segment…I love that Blue is able to wear her natural hair. I laugh when I am nervous and when I registered what I had just said, I of course was taken aback.”

The controversy has not only resulted in the firing of a producer at BET, but their president of music programming and specials, Stephen Hill also offered a public apology on behalf of the network.

“Last night on 106 & Park there was a stupid, unthoughtful joke made about a young child,” wrote Hill. “We apologize publicly to the child’s parents (and have done so privately) and we have taken punitive actions with those responsible. It was very bad judgment and we will serve you much better in the future. Oh, and please don’t hate on Karrueche; it was NOT her fault. We also apologize to her for putting her in that position.”
