It’s official: George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin get their marriage license

Clooney and Amal got their marriage license in London.

Once Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor, George Clooney is one step closer to marrying Beirut-born international lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

Although we’ve known that Clooney was headed to the altar since April when he proposed to Amal, the couple got their marriage license on Wednesday, making it all the more real for those of us who thought Clooney would never settle down again (Clooney was married to actress Talia Balsam, from 1989 until 1993).

According to People magazine, Clooney and Amal got their marriage license in London. Furthermore, a notice, which is no longer posted, was visible outside Chelsea Old Town Hall. People says that it’s a legal requirement for U.K. citizens to announce their intent to marry. The notice revealed that the wedding will be held in Italy.

Although the media regularly publishes articles about Clooney, the Daily Mail published an article last month suggesting that Amal’s mother wasn’t a fan of their pending nuptials on religious grounds. Clooney wrote an op-ed in USA Today slamming the article and the Daily Mail eventually apologized.

“Every day they write things that aren’t true, but every once in a while they write something that is actually dangerous to your family, and it’s probably not true,” Clooney told Variety about doing battle with the Daily Mail. “And that’s the one you pick.”
