President Putin “bears responsibility” for plane crash in Ukraine says Hillary Clinton

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Russian President Vladimir Putin "bears responsibility" for the Malaysian Airlines plane crash that killed 298 passengers when it was shot down over Ukraine, reports the Daily Mail.

Hillary Clinton has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin “bears responsibility” for the crash of the Malaysian airliner shot down last week in eastern Ukraine, reports the Daily Mail.

Mrs. Clinton, former Secretary of State and possible presidential candidate, made the comment during an interview with Fareed Zakaria of CNN. The interview will air this Sunday.

“I think if there were any doubt it should be gone by now, that Vladimir Putin, certainly indirectly — through his support of the insurgents in eastern Ukraine and the supply of advanced weapons and, frankly, the presence of Russian Special Forces and intelligence agents – bears responsibility for what happened,”said Clinton.

Earlier in the week Mrs. Clinton said President Putin had “gone too far.”

Europeans “need to understand they must stand up to Vladimir Putin,” said Clinton during the interview.

“From my perspective — and I have the benefit of not being in the government — if there is evidence linking Russia to this, that should inspire the Europeans to do much more,” said Clinton, who served as Secretary of State during the first term of President Barack Obama.

During the interview, Mrs. Clinton reflected on her interaction with Putin while she was in office. “He’s very tough. He’s a very arrogant person to deal with, which I think is a combination of this vision of Russia and some fundamental insecurity, because when you are dealing with him, he often acts as though he could care less,” said Clinton.

Clinton made her comments as Russia prepares to transfer more powerful weaponry into Ukraine, a move that could happen at any time, warns the Pentagon.

Putin claims Ukraine bears significant responsibility for the plane crash and loss of 298 passengers. If military operations had not resumed in eastern Ukraine on June 28, “this tragedy probably could have been avoided,” said Putin in a statement.

Russian separatists have been accused of shooting down the passenger plane. President Obama recently accused the separatists of blocking investigation of the plane crash site.
