Will Elizabeth Warren be the reason Hilary Clinton doesn’t run for president?

Progressive and liberal activists were out in force at a Detroit conference Friday, calling on U. S. Senator Elizabeth Warren to run for president in 2016.

Progressive and liberal activists are touting the name of  another potential presidential candidate for 2016:  Senator Elizabeth Warren, Democrat from Massachusetts.

Before Sen. Warren could deliver her speech on Friday at the Netroots Nation conference in Detroit, she was forced to hush members of the audience urging her to run for president in 2016. The crowd began to chant, “Run, Liz, run,” reported The New York Times.

“Sit down people,” Warren admonished. “Come on, let’s get started.”

The senator then delivered a fiery call-to-arms, urging the audience to fight back against the rich and powerful special interest groups that hold sway in Washington, D.C.

“They cheated American families, crashed the economy, got bailed out, and now the biggest banks are even bigger than they were when they got too big to fail in 2008!” Warren exclaimed, according to the Times. “A kid gets caught with a few ounces of pot and goes to jail, but a big bank launders drug money and no one gets arrested,” said Warren. “The game is rigged!”

Elected in November 2012, Warren has taken aggressive stands on Wall Street reform and student loan debt, positions that have endeared the senator to progressives, made her a fundraising powerhouse, and have led to generating calls for her to mount a presidential bid.

Sen. Warren is a hot commodity on the campaign trail this year, supporting Democratic candidates across the country. While in Michigan, the senator spoke at a fundraiser for Senate candidate Rep. Gary Peters, D-Mich. Warren is also influencing the races of Democrats running in red states, including Natalie Tennant in West Virginia and Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky, reports CBS News.

“Elizabeth Warren tells it like it is,” said Marcia Riquelme, co-chair of a progressive group in Wisconsin, told the Times. “I appreciate Hillary…But I know that Elizabeth Warren has a perspective that is probably healthier. She has good economic principles. She has a depth of experience, and she knows how to share her deepest heart,” said Riquelme.

Backers of  the former First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State,  Hillary Clinton, who did not speak at the conference, were out in force. Ready for Hillary, an outside political action committee dedicated to backing a prospective Clinton candidacy, paid $10,000 to be a sponsor of the conference, according to the Times

Not to be outdone, Warren’s supporters have created a Facebook page and website urging Warren to run.

The organization name? “Ready for Warren.”
