Los Angeles Fire Department releases 911 call from 'The Shield' actor Michael Jace's, who killed his wife then called his father-in-law.
A 911 call released Thursday by the Los Angeles Fire Department reveals that actor Michael Jace, who portrayed a police officer on the FX drama The Shield, called his father-in-law minutes after shooting his wife, April, multiple times on May 19. In the three-minute recording, Jace’s father-in-law states that the actor called him to admit to the crime and to ask family members to pick up their children.
“My son-in-law called me and texted me, and said come get the kids because he shot April, our daughter,” said the male voice on the recording. “We’re on the 405 (freeway) headed there now from Long Beach. We’re a ways out yet. Godspeed, please.”
Jace was arrested May 19 on suspicion that he shot and killed his wife during a domestic dispute inside the couple’s house in the Hype Park area of Los Angeles. Their two sons, five-year-old Caleb and eight-year-old Nehemiah, were nearby during the shooting. April’s older brother, Carlo Laune, told the Daily News, today, that the two boys are now living with members on his side of the family.
“We’re tight. The kids know grandma really well. They’re with blood family — relatives with children who have known the boys since they were children. They’re loved and just playing like little kids,” said Laune.
Laune states that his sister did not tell him about any abuse before her death and is waiting to learn things that will “come out in the trial.”
“He shot her. She’s dead. I want him punished to the full extent of the law. I don’t like hating people, but you can only imagine my thoughts and feelings toward a person who would do that to an unarmed female, the mother of his own kids. It doesn’t even compute,” said Laune. “My sister took a stand without a weapon. And I know my sister well. She was trying to protect her kids. She was a protector.”
Michael Jace’s defense lawyer, Jason O. Sias, said at Jace’s first court appearance that the actor is concerned for his kids.
“It’s tough. It’s emotional. He’s thinking about his children and he just wants to see this process through.”
Jace will return to court on June 18 for his arraignment.
