Suspects lead police on high-speed chase with kids in minivan

All five children were initially placed in the custody of the state of Massachusetts.

A high-speed chase in Massachusetts over the weekend became a family affair. The Boston Herald reports that police were dispatched to a home in Woodburn on Friday in response to a burglary call. Upon arriving, police found suspected burglar 39-year-old Ralph Pasquarello inside the residence.

Instead of following police orders, Pasquarello exited the home and quickly entered his family’s mini-van. The driver’s seat was allegedly occupied by his 26-year-old wife Salina Pasquarello. The couple fled the scene of the crime and led police on a high-speed chase that covered two adjacent cities. Once the vehicle was cornered, police officers reported the couple’s five young children were also passengers in the vehicle.

According to a statement obtained by WBZ Boston, Woburn Police Chief Robert J. Ferullo Jr. said, “This is a deeply disturbing case that we allege involves a husband and wife committing felonies, with the wife driving a getaway car packed with their young children. These suspects clearly showed reckless disregard for the well being of their children, especially as the mother sped away from police and nearly crashed into several cars before she was caught. This day could have ended much, much worse, and we are just grateful that these children were not injured.”

The Boston Herald reports that all five children were initially placed in the custody of the state of Massachusetts. The children were released back into the custody of their mother, Salina Pasquarello, after she posted bail late Friday evening.

The Pasquarellos were charged with felony breaking and entering, failure to stop for police, larceny, theft, and child endangerment, according to The Boston Globe.
