Apple seeks to block sale of certain Samsung products

The specific devices Apple wants banned are the Admire, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Galaxy S III, and Stratosphere phones.

On the heels of a jury verdict earlier this month that Samsung violated three of its patents, Apple filed a motion Friday to block the U.S. sale of some older Samsung products.

“Apple will suffer irreparable harm if Samsung continues its use of the Infringing Features,” Apple attorneys wrote in the motion filed with U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh. “Monetary damages cannot adequately compensate Apple for this resulting irreparable harm.”

Judge Koh presided over the companies’ first U.S. legal spat  in 2012, and twice rejected the iPhone manufacturer’s request for a product ban in that case, making it unlikely she will grant the request this time around, Bloomberg reports.

In early May, a jury awarded Apple $119.6 million for Samsung’s infringement of its “quick links,” “slide to unlock,” and “automatic word correction” patents. This figure was much less than the $2.2 billion Apple had originally requested, and in a separate court filing, the company is additionally asking for a partial re-trial on the damages question, no doubt hoping for a more favorable award.

According to CNET, the specific devices Apple wants banned are the Admire,Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Galaxy S III, and Stratosphere phones.

“After the jury rejected Apple’s grossly exaggerated damages claim, Apple is once again leaning on the court to push other smartphones out of the market,” Samsung spokesman Adam Yates told Boomberg. “If granted, this would stifle fair competition and limit choice for American consumers.”
