Report reveals America's top companies for pay and benefits

Glassdoor determined its rankings through a five-point review system, submitted by employees of the companies themselves.

Glassdoor, the career website, released its ranking of the top 25 U.S. companies with the best employee benefits and compensation this week.

Google tops the list, with Cotsco coming in a close second. Facebook, Adobe, and Epic Systems round out the top five, while eBay claimed the list’s final spot at number 25.

“Free food, amazing people, amazing vision,” said a reviewer of Google on the site.  “Almost everything about this company is a pro.”

Cotsco stands out as the only non tech company in the top five. Glassdoor spokesman Scott Dobroski told Forbes that Costco’s benefits are “unusually generous” for a company that hires many people without college degrees or professional training, especially its health benefits.

Glassdoor determined its rankings through a five-point review system, submitted by employees of the companies themselves. In fact, all of the information about the 300,000 companies in the database, from job interview descriptions to boss reviews, comes directly from Glassdoor’s 23 million members, according to Forbes. The information for the rankings came from an online company review form. It has space for 17 bits of information, Forbes reports, one of them being a slot with five blank stars where users rate their company on compensation and benefits.

“[The report is] based on workplace insights shared by the people who know these companies best — their employees,” Glassdoor said on its website.

Founded in Sausalito, CA six years ago, Glassdoor has put out a best-places-to-work list annually. But this year for the first time the website decided to rank companies by benefits and compensation, Forbes reports.
