Ohio school to go on daily lockdown after shootings

Not everyone was happy with the decision.

According to a report from The Cincinnati Enquirer, Lincoln Heights Elementary School in Cincinnati, OH, will go on daily lockdown after shootings in the area. The daily lockdown, which started Wednesday, will last through the end of the school year on Jun. 2.

The Cincinnati Enquirer points out that the decision to implement a daily lockdown was made approximately a week after two people were shot nearby. Also contributing to the decision was the fact that last December a bullet went through the window of an empty school bus and nearly hit the bus driver’s head.

“It takes one bullet for a student getting off the bus, end of recess outside and we could not look ourselves in the mirror and say that we could not proactively have planned to ensure that each and every child was safe,” said Ed Theroux, Director of Student Services for the Princeton School District, at a school board meeting with concerned parents, according to FOX19.

Not everyone was happy with the decision. One parent reportedly told school officials that “the majority of the people that want to close the school down are racist.”
