Rihanna donates $25,000 to LAPD charity after breaking cop's phone

A random encounter leads to a big act of kindness.

According to FOXSports.com, Rihanna has donated $25,000 to a L.A. police fund. The money will help fund new cadets from underprivileged backgrounds as well as support the families of fallen police officers.

The donation may not have happened if L.A. Police Commission President Steve Soboroff and Rihanna had had different seat assignments at game 3 of the L.A. Clippers playoff series. Sobroff noticed the singer nearby and asked her to take a selfie wearing a L.A.P.D. wristband. Rihanna obliged but after completing the photo accidentally dropped the phone, cracking the screen. To make amends, she not only tweeted an apology but also promised the donation to the fund.

Adding to her generosity, Sobroff and Rihanna crossed paths again at game 4. She autographed the broken phone and Sobroff tweeted that he would be auctioning it off, with the money designated for the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation.

Sobroff reported that he hoped the publicity and money would help boost the morale of the LAPD, which has lost five officers in the last two months, four in traffic collisions.
