Law school grad punished for beheading bird in Las Vegas: Report

Teixeira will also be required to perform 16 hours of community service each month.

Citing prosecutors, Reuters reports that Justin Alexander Teixeira, a law school grad, was given up to four years of probation on Monday for beheading a bird at a Las Vegas hotel in 2012.

The AP says that the drunken incident was captured on tape. The video reveals Teixeira and several other friends from Berkeley harassing the bird, a helmeted guineafowl, in a wildlife habitat garden area. Teixeira reportedly picked up the bird and beheaded it as guests ate breakfast nearby.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Teixeira’s ability to practice law may depend on whether the felony (killing another person’s animal) remains on his record. Citing Frank Coumou, a Clark County chief deputy district attorney, the Chronicle says that the law school grad can withdraw his feloy plea if he successfully complete his probation term.

Teixeira will also be required to perform 16 hours of community service each month.
