Idol winner Scotty McCreery robbed at gunpoint during home invasion

McCreery and his friends were not harmed.

According to a report from The Associated Press, American Idol winner Scotty McCreery was robbed at gunpoint during a home invasion near the campus of North Carolina State University. The incident took place early Monday morning.

McCreery, who is a student at the university, was at an off campus apartment with some friends when three armed men robbed the group of wallets, cash and cell phones, The AP notes. McCreery and his friends were not harmed.

“Yes, it was definitely a very scary night,” McCreery said on his Facebook page Monday. “Luckily, my friends and I are safe and the Raleigh PD is on the case. I will share more when the time is right, but as of now we do not want to do or say anything that could hinder the investigation. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and support.”

According to Songkick, McCreery, who his known for his low singing voice, will perform this Friday at Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California.

No word on whether the incident will impact his touring schedule.
