Leaked HTC One Mini 2 photos reveal new colors, camera changes

It appears the HTC One Mini 2 will come in three different colors - gray, silver and gold.

Buyers who like the design and functionality of the HTC M8, but who would prefer a less sizable phone evidently will not have long to wait before their wish comes true.

According to a post published this morning by CNET, a notorious internet leaker has unleashed photographs and specs of what appears to be the as-yet-unannounced HTC One Mini 2. If the leaked documents are genuine and have not merely been generated by the leaker to gain web attention, then the HTC One Mini 2 will come in three different colors – gray, silver, and gold – and will bear more resemblance to Apple’s iPhone 5S than to the larger Samsung Galaxy ones that the original HTC One and the One M8 mimic.

However, from looking at the photos of the new HTC One Mini 2, it appears that the phone’s biggest departure from its larger One M8 counterpart has nothing to do with color or aesthetic appearance. On the contrary, arguably the most significant piece of information learned from the leaked photos is that the Mini 2 will not have the extra camera power of  the M8.

When the HTC One M8 arrived on the market earlier this year, it made headlines by touting an “ultra pixel” camera instead of talking about the usual barometer of megapixels. What HTC meant by the claim was that its phone camera would capture higher quality pictures by assembling photos from larger pixels than most phone cameras. The phone was able to do this because it had not one, but two rear-facing camera lenses, which together allowed the phone to let in more light and gather a greater level of depth information than most megapixel devices.

From the photos, however, it looks like the HTC One Mini 2 will only have one rear-facing camera lens, meaning that HTC has gone back to traditional megapixels for this more compact phone model.
