British actors get villainous in Jaguar Super Bowl 2014 ad

Oscar-winning director teamed up with British actors Tom Hiddleston, Ben Kingsley and Mark Strong for a delightfully evil Jaguar ad for the 2014 Super Bowl.

British stars Tom Hiddleston, Ben Kingsley and Mark Strong make bad look good in a recently released Jaguar advertisement titled “Rendezvous”.  The 60-second video will be airing during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVIII as the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks square off at MetLife Stadium this Sunday.

“Have you ever noticed how in Hollywood movies, all the villains are played by Brits?” Iron Man 3 star Ben Kingsley asks at the start of the commercial.  The rest of the ad involves Zero Dark Thirty star Mark Strong maneuvering the Jaguar F-Type Coupe through the streets of London and meeting with fellow villains Kingsley and Thor: The Dark World star Tom Hiddleston.

The new “British Villains” campaign is introducing the Jaguar F-Type Coupe, according to Variety.  This will be the first time advertising during a Super Bowl quarter for the British car company.  ““Super Bowl week is a major milestone for the Jaguar brand as we present our newest and fastest model, the F-Type Coupe, to millions of current and future potential customers,” Jaguar North America brand VP Jeff Curry told Variety.  “We are sharing the 60- second spot online this week as interest rises, but really look forward to presenting the F-TYPE coupe and our British villains in action to the viewers in high definition during the game.”

The F-Type Coupe is a design from Jaguar design director Ian Callum, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The F-Type convertible released in 2013 gave Jaguar a 41% sales increase, and that told Callum that the F-Type was really doing something right for Jaguar.   “I always say, if you do a great-looking convertible, you’ll get a great coupe out of that,” Callum explained to The Hollywood Reporter.  The car will be available this coming spring for $65,000.

Tom Hooper directed the Jaguar advertisement, and the score was composed by Alexander Desplat.  Both Hooper and Desplat worked together on The King’s Speech, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2010.  Hooper also directed the 2012 film version of Les Miserables.

According to Variety, Jaguar plans to use Mindshare’s “The Loop” to watch, analyze and use real consumer data coming in.  Jaguar also plans to respond live to any messages received from social media platforms like Twitter.
