Johnny Depp pops question to Amber Heard, she says ‘yes’

The two met on the set of "Rum Diaries" and have reportedly been engaged since Christmas Eve.

Once paps spotted actress Amber Heard sporting some outsized sparkle on the most hallowed of fingers, it didn’t take long for the gears to start cranking in the rumor mill Celebuzz first broke the story on Thrusday, and now Us Weekly confirms that Pirates of the Caribbean star Depp, 50, and Heard, 27, are officially engaged to walk the plank aisle. The two have yet to return requests for comment.

The two met in 2011 on the set of the flick Rum Diaries and have reportedly been dating ever since. Celebuzz’s sources say that the romance hasn’t always been a Disney-worthy fairytale story.

“She turned him down before,” said the source, “before she said yes. So she waited and was thinking about it for a long time.”

Ever persistent, the successful question-popping reportedly took place on Christmas Eve of last year.

Though a couple for some years now, the two have been successful at keeping the press and paparazzi guessing as to the nature of their relationship. In fact, it took some time to make their relationship official not confirming it until June 2012. They made their first red carpet appearance as a couple the night before the 2014 Golden Globes at the Art of Elusium gala in Los Angeles.

This will be Depp’s second marriage, having been married to Lori Anne Allison from 1983 to 1985. Since then, he’s had quite the A-list roster of romantic partners: Actresses Jennifer Grey, Sheryl Fenn, Winona Ryder (to whom he proposed), supermodel Kate Moss and French actress/singer Vanessa Paradis. Depp and Paradis dated for 14 years before announcing their split in June of 2012. They have a daughter (Lily-Rose Melody Depp) and a son (John “Jack” Christopher Depp III).

This will be the first walk down the aisle for Heard who, though seemingly bisexual, does not label herself as anything in particular. She came out 2010, at GLAAD’s 25th anniversary event, and dated photographer Tasya van Ree from 2008 to 2011.

Fans of the pair can see them on screen later this year in London Fields, a crime thriller based on the 1989 novel of the same name by Martin Amis. Depp has a cameo on the movie.
