‘Big Brother’ housemate loses job after making offensive slurs

'Big Brother' hits a chord.

Another housemate on the CBS show “Big Brother” has lost her job after making homophobic and racial slurs on the show’s live web stream.

Last week housemate Aaryn Gries lost her job with a modeling agency after she was heard making racist comments.  One would think that would be a wake-up call for the rest of the cast members, but apparently not as GinaMarie Zimmerman found out she lost her job Wednesday.  Zimmerman, a former beauty pageant queen, worked as a pageant coordinator with East Coast USA Pageant.

CEO of East Coast USA Pageant Lauren Handler issued a statement on the matter.  “We are actually thankful that this show let us see GinaMarie for who she truly is as we would never want her to be a role model to our future contestants.  It is unfortunate that her hateful words were able to be witnessed by so many thousands of “Big Brother” fans as they were rightfully so deeply offended.”

Zimmerman showed herself to be quite different from the beauty queen persona she has on the show’s live web stream, which “Big Brother” fans can watch 24/7 on the show’s website.  Not only did Zimmerman slam a fellow housemate for being gay, she said that an Asian house mate “should be kissing our a– and serving us some rice” and referred to government assistance as “n—-r insurance.”

While some fans think CBS should kick Zimmerman and Gries off the show, the network hasn’t agreed to doing that.  They did release a statement regarding the situation and said that they don’t support the racist comments and that the comments didn’t represent the network.  So far none of the comments have been televised.  Another contestant named Spencer Lawson was also heard using gay slurs during the live stream, and time will tell if he will become the third person to lose his day job because of comments made on a reality TV show.

People have been so outraged with the intolerance and hurtful comments that they have started a petition on Change.org to have Gries kicked off the show and it is likely that a similar petition will pop up for Zimmerman soon.  The Gries petition reached 3,000 signatures, so the people who started the petition will send it to CBS executives and hope that the network takes action to prove that such behavior isn’t condoned.

“Big Brother” has been on the air since 1999 and is currently in its fifteenth season.  The season finale will air on September 18 where the winner will take home a $500,000 prize.
