Amy Poehler sends love to Boston in new ‘Ask Amy’ video

Have you been overwhelmed by the videos and images of the Boston Marathon bombings?

“Parks and Recreation” star Amy Poehler, a Boston native, reacted to the Boston Marathon bombings in an emotional new “Ask Amy” video recently posted to YouTube.

In response to a question from 16-year-old girl named Millie about spreading better messages, Poehler said that people process information in different ways. While some people need to see videos or images, others read, talk or listen to gather their information.

Poehler also noted that it’s perfectly fine to ignore what everybody else seems to want to watch, adding that people should be fine with allowing some events to just “rest in peace.” Over the last few days, Americans have been offered countless opportunities to watch video of the bombs going off, as well as tough images of injured marathon runners being carried to safety. For some people, these images and videos can be overwhelming.

According to Cinema Blend, Poehler was born in Massachusetts and attended college at Boston University. Poehler’s video helped both Bostonians and non-Bostonians figure out how to deal with a heavy blow that was dealt to a great American city.

The actress’ intelligent response is one of many that will be needed in the weeks and months to come as investigators, Bostonians and Americans try to sort through the numerous whys connected to the incident.

Poehler isn’t the only celebrity to issue a thoughtful response to the Boston Marathon bombings. Comedian and “King of Queens” star Patton Oswalt posted a poignant take on Monday’s terrible tragedy to his Facebook page. As of early Saturday morning, Oswalt’s post has received more than 15,000 comments and 250,000 shares.
