Gable may have been drunk.
John Clark Gable, son of celebrated Hollywood icon Clark Gable and the actress Kay Williams, was arrested in Malibu Tuesday afternoon after crashing into six parked cars along Pacific Coast Highway. Driving a white Ford Raptor, Gable was apprehended by authorities for suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
The watch sergeant for the Malibu/Lost Hills police station stated that a call came in at 2:54 p.m. Tuesday concerning a potential hit-and-run in the city of Malibu. Gable’s car is thought to have rear-ended another vehicle before fleeing at high speeds and colliding with the six aforementioned cars. No injuries were reported.
TMZ reports that Gable, 52, has since claimed he “absolutely was not drinking” and simply blacked out behind the wheel. He went on to explain that he is currently taking pain medication for a minor leg injury sustained while mountain biking.
Gable reportedly said he has had two brain aneurysms in the past–in 2006 and again in 2009–but that both were corrected with surgery. Regardless, the incident on Tuesday morning has encouraged him to seek medical consultation on the potential reasons for the car accident.
The results of Gable’s blood alcohol tests have not been released, but reports at the scene of the collision include eyewitness accounts of Gable collapsing to the ground after exiting his vehicle. Sheriff’s Sergeant Phil Brooks told the Los Angeles Times that Gable seemed “to be on drugs.”
Gable’s jail records indicate that he was held on $15,000 bail before being released from custody at 11:40 Tuesday night. It is not the first time one of the Gable clan have been in trouble with the law; Clark James Gable was arrested and sentenced to 10 days in jail after directing a portable laser into the cockpit of a Los Angeles police helicopter in 2011.
Clark Gable, referred to as “The King of Hollywood,” is most famous for not giving a damn in the Academy Award winning Gone with the Wind. He died in 1960, four months before John Clark Gable was born. John’s own career in acting has been sparse, with roles in 1990’s Bad Jim and 2012’s Beyond. He’s currently set to star in Oliver Theess’s Sunset at Dawn.
