Cruz is pregnant.
Actress Penelope Cruz and husband Javier Bardem are expecting their second child, according to the New York Post. Sources close to the actress have told the newspaper that Cruz is pregnant again. Reuters reports that sources have also confirmed the baby news to Us Weekly and E!
Cruz’s second child will join a family full of Oscar winners. The Spanish beauty won a best supporting actress award for her role in Woody Allen’s 2008 comedy “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” Bardem has also experienced Oscar glory, winning a best supporting actor Oscar for his role in the 2007 drama “No Country for Old Men.”
Cruz and Bardem tied the knot in 2010. The couple started dating in 2007, but managed to keep their relationship out of the public eye until 2009. According to People, when Cruz was once asked if she was dating Bardem, the Spanish actress said, “he’s a friend and the best actor in the world.”
Although Cruz hasn’t commented on her pregnancy yet, she once called the feeling of giving birth to her first child “revolutionary.”
“It is a revolutionary experience,” she told Vogue back in June 2011. “That’s the best way I can describe it. It transforms you completely, in a second. Nature is very wise and gives you nine months to prepare, but in that moment, when you see that face, you are transformed forever.”
Cruz gave birth to Leo Encinas Bardem in January 2011 at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
“From the first second, you feel so much love,” Cruz said.
Interestingly, Cruz’s sister, Monica Cruz, is also pregnant. Monica told the world that she is expecting her first child on her blog for the Spanish newspaper El Pais in a post titled “My Life’s Dream.” She is expecting her first child via an anonymous sperm donor. According to USA Today, Monica and Penelope worked together in 2012 to create a collection for luxury lingerie company Agent Pvovocateur.
“So I’ve decided to talk about it: I have resorted to artificial insemination in order to get pregnant,” Monica wrote on her blog.
“A 40-year-old woman is very young and she feels very young but the maternity thing goes another way,” she added. “It is measured with another clock that unfortunately we do not control. I’ve become very informed on the subject. It turns out that after 37 the possibilities of becoming pregnant decrease at an alarming rate.”
According to IMDb, Penelope will appear in two movies in 2013: “The Counselor” and “I’m So Excited.” She is also expected to appear in the recently announced “La Reina de España” in 2014.
Bardem, on the other hand, recently appeared in the latest James Bond film, “Skyfall.” Yahoo! Movies’ Matt McDaniel called Bardem one of the “best bad guys in the 50 year history of the franchise.” As the cyberterrorist Raoul Silva, McDaniel notes that Bardem is the highest-profile actor to challenge Bond since Christopher Walken in 1985’s “A View to a Kill.”
Will the experience of having a second child be as “revolutionary” for Cruz as the first? Do beautiful people produce beautiful babies? Is Cruz and Bardem’s relationship the real deal? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
