Kardashian-Jenner family becomes latest victims of ‘swatting’ prank

Kim is upset about "swatting" prank.

Bruce and Kris Jenner and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan became the latest victims of a celebrity “swatting” prank Friday. According to Access Hollywood, the Kardashian family home was swarmed by cops and medical personnel.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian, who is probably the most famous member of the Kardashian family, slammed the prank Friday night.

“Just got a call from my mom telling me about this prank call that someone was shot in their home & 15 swat team & 3 helicopters showed up!” the pregnant Kardashian tweeted“These prank calls are NOT funny! People can get arrested for this!” she added. “I hope they find out who is behind this. It’s dangerous & not a joke!”

Kim’s half sister, Kendall Jenner, described the incident in a more sarcastic way. “I love it when 8 police officers show up at my door and 10 cop cars are outside my house. Just another casual Friday evening at the Jenner household. #nbd #EveryonesOk” Kendall tweeted.

Kendall also posted several photos to Instagram of police cars, a helicopter and Olympic legend and dad Bruce Jenner posing with police officers inside their Calabasas mansion, adding, “Kids are really stupid. You know you can get arrested for something like this? #pointless lol”

Although the Kardashians have been known to pull publicity stunts, this certainly isn’t one of them.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “swatting” is a prank masterminded by people who call police to report a crime taking place, causing a real response, even though no crime has actually occurred. The LA Times notes that several police officers have already been hurt responding to “swatting” calls.

The Kardashians aren’t the only victims of celebrity “swatting.” Singer Justin Bieber and reality TV producer Simon Cowell have also fallen victim to this humorless type of prank. One prankster called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on October 10 to report that a shooter inside a Calabasas mansion was threatening residents and police. Heavily armed police officers arrived on scene and swept the house and the surrounding neighborhood for the shooter. The mansion belonged to Bieber, who was away on tour at the time.

“Swatting is a very real problem for those in the public eye,” Blair Berk, a criminal lawyer who has represented several celebrities, told the LA Times. “It is only a matter of time before someone dies because of this stupidity.”

Not all of the allegeded pranksters have gotten away with their “swatting” pranks. According WJBD Radio, a juvenile was arrested in 2012 for “swatting” incidents at the homes of Ashton Kutcher and Bieber.

“They were able to locate an individual, a youngster, a juvenile, quite young, who was responsible for both incidences,” Andy Neiman of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Access notes that Tom Cruise and Miley Cyrus have also been victims of recent celebrity “swatting” incidents.

In the meantime, Kim is expecting her first child with boyfriend and rapper Kanye West and Kris Jenner is upset about recent media reports concerning her and her family.

What should the punishment be for someone who is caught “swatting?” Are there any ways to stop these sorts of crimes? Sound off in the comments section.
