Radcliffe discusses his new film.

Daniel Radcliffe has clearly moved way beyond Harry Potter.

The star of the new indie drama, Kill Your Darlings, where he plays the late gay Beat poet Allen Ginsberg, took time on Friday to discuss his steamy man-on-man sex scene, describing it as something new.

The 23-year-old said it helped that director John Krokidas selected a friend for the role of the sailor who sleeps with Ginsberg.

Radcliffe said the scene was shot quite shortly, noting that it only took around two hours to film. Radcliffe discussed shooting the scenes just hours before the actor’s new film premiered at Sundance Film Festival.

Radcliffe’s portrayal of young Ginsberg is initiated into booze and drugs, has oral sex performed on him in a library, makes out with one man and gets naked for sex with another man.

The sex scene reportedly prompted a number of questions from the Sundance audience before the premiere. Speaking with the audience, Radcliffe said the movie was an interesting project that would not have been done if everyone involved did not love the script.

Krokidas, who spoke just after Radcliffe, said the famed Harry Potter star eventually became his muse on the film and that it was clear within minutes of their first meeting that the part was perfect for Radcliffe.

While much of the attention was focused on the new movie, speculation over Radcliffe’s personal life did creep in. The actor was asked repeatedly about his relationship with his Kill Your Darlings costar Erin Darke, whom sources say spent much of the night cuddling and kissing Radcliffe. According to various sources, Darke sat in the chair next to the couch and continuously rubbed Radcliffe’s knee just before the pair were spotted kissing. Speaking Friday, Radcliffe dodged questions about his personal life, saying he preferred to discuss the movie.
