Helen Mirren: I’m very proud to be ‘peed upon by future generations of tourists’

Helen Mirren is excited about seeing her Hollywood star next to Colin Firth's.

Actress Helen Mirren, who was recently awarded the 2,488th Hollywood star, was extremely happy to be placed next to actor Colin Firth on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I couldn’t be prouder and more happy that I’m actually going to finally lie next to Colin Firth, something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time,” Mirren said, according to a video captured by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “I think it’s very good for the British monarchy that here on Hollywood Boulevard, the King and the Queen are going to actually sleep together, for the rest of history.”

Both Mirren and Firth have played members of Britain’s royal family. Firth portrayed King George VI in the “The King’s Speech” and Mirren played Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen.” They both won Oscars for their performances.

“I’m so very, very proud to be henceforth walked upon, have fries dropped upon, maybe even be peed upon by future generations of tourists, Angelenos and their dogs,” the actress added. “But please, please no chewing gum.”

“The ‘queen’s’ star is located right next to that of the ‘king,’ Colin Firth,” said Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive, according to The Los Angeles Times. “We’ve kind of made this, in front of the Pig ‘N Whistle, we’ve kind of made this a Brit location.”

According to the official website of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Walk of Fame has recently begun a major facelift (no pun intended given its location).  A press release from the website notes that the effort to fix the Walk of Fame dates back to 2006; an expert in terrazzo was even flown in from Florida to try to determine why the sidewalk kept cracking.

Although officials originally planned to spend approximately $4 million renovating the walk, it quickly became obvious that the actual costs of repair would far exceed the money raised. To deal with a lack of funding, officials decided to start repairs in areas where they were badly needed and work on other locations as additional money was raised.

Thanks to renovation efforts, Mirren can enjoy her star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame for many years to come.

Who else is deserving of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? Is there anyone, who has a star, who isn’t deserving of one? Sound off in the comments section.
