Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez break up.

Bieber believers were stunned to hear that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have broken up. The split, which was confirmed by E! News on Friday, took place about a week ago. “Because of their crazy schedules, it was getting harder and harder to maintain a relationship,” the source told E! News.

Another source confirmed the break up with Us.

“Selena broke up with Justin about a week ago. It’s been a really challenging experience over the last year because of their crazy schedules,” a source told Us Friday“Selena definitely had some major trust issues with Justin.”

The Bieber, Gomez break up brings to an end a relationship that began back in February 2011, when the celebrity couple was spotted at the Vanity Fair Oscar party together.

The rumors of a Bieber, Gomez up peaked when the singer was seen attending a Broadway show with Victoria’s Secret model Barbara Palvin.

When Bieber believers took to Twitter to slam Ms. Palvin for destroying the singer’s relationship with Ms. Gomez, the Victoria’s Secret model responded with a message of her own: “Hey everyone. Please calm down. He is all yours!! Please.”

With the break up still fresh in his mind, the Canadian singer-songwriter was unwilling to discuss the split in detail during an interview Saturday.

“I don’t know what to say,” Mr. Bieber told Open House Party radio host John Garabedian. “I don’t know what’s going on in my life … To even assess that it doesn’t make sense ’cause I have not made any comment.”

During his Boston concert Saturday, the singer played an acoustic version of Justin Timberlake’s 2002 hit “Cry Me a River,” according to ABC News. Mr. Timberlake wrote “Cry Me a River” after his own break up with Britney Spears.

E! News noted that the Bieber, Gomez break up may be exactly what die-hard Bieber fans were waiting to hear, as they have attacked the “Wizards of Waverly Place” star via the internet “since day one.”

“It hurts, it really does,” Ms. Gomez once remarked on Z100 radio in NYC. “I don’t feel like I’m doing anything wrong. I’ve been best friends with him for a very long time. It does hurt my feelings a lot, but I try not to focus on it.”

While the Bieber, Gomez break up may be the end of one relationship, the singer certainly has no plans to end his relationship with his fans.

“Thank you Boston. Focused on the positive. #30MillionBeliebers with me. I’m never leaving you because you are always there for me,” Mr. Bieber tweeted after the Boston concert Saturday.
